BMW i4 Receives a Facelift: What's Changed?

BMW has given a facelift to its most successful EV, the BMW i4. It sold more than 83 thousand worldwide in the previous year, with the i4 M50 xDrive being the most selling M badged car in the past two years. BMW has decided to cash in on this by making slight upgrades to the i4. Let's have a look at them.

Exterior Changes

The changes start with a new chrome kidney that houses a closed grille (these EVs and their fake grills, sigh) that has a honeycomb pattern and a matt finish. The biggest update is in the lights of the front and rear. These are now sleeker than before. A single LED module takes care of all the lighting in the front. The M Sport variant gets a glossy black diffuser at the back.

Refreshed Interior

The cabin sees an overhaul in the EV. You will find a more compact gear selector like the iX1 and iX3 SUV in the i4. The AC air vents have a new shape, opting for a modern and minimal design of rotary switches rather than a side-by-side airflow adjustment system. The displays of the sedan are now underpinned by BMW's iDrive 8.5 infotainment system. There is also a new steering with lit up buttons that is flat-bottomed in the M Sport variant.

Powertrain Talk

There are three variants of the powertrains available with the BMW i4. The first being the i4 eDrive35 that offers a power output of 282 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. This version can go from 0-100 km/h in 6 seconds and BMW claims it will give you a range of 500 km. The second is the BMW i4 eDrive40 that gives 335 bhp power and 430 Nm torque. This variant accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and the best range of all variants at 600 km. The third variant is the BMW i4 xDrive40 which gives a power of 396 bhp and 600 Nm of torque. This has a 0-100 time of 5.1 seconds and a range of 548 km. The last variant is the M50 xDrive with 536 bhp and 795 Nm torque. This has the best 0-100 time at 3.9 seconds and a range of 522 km.

India Launch Possible?

While there is no information on when it will come to India, it is likely that it will find its way here. Currently the i4 available in India is from May 2022 and comes with a single variant. This variant is the eDrive40 that can be bought for an ex-showroom price of 72.50 Lakh. It doesn't have any direct competition in India but it will be interesting to see if Mercedes releases the EQE sedan in India. BMW recently launched the i4’s elder sibling the i5 in India, you can read about it here.
