The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was available in India in its previous avatar. And now, after four years, the much-anticipated second generation is here. Set to launch globally in 2025. Will it make its way to India? No official word yet.
Design and Dimensions
The exterior changes may not be radical, but the design is cleaner and more refined. It's slightly longer and taller than the outgoing model, making it more spacious, which we Indians will appreciate. BMW’s iconic kidney grilles remain prominent, complemented by teardrop headlights and a more conventional rear design.
Performance Upgrades
Both the 228 xDrive and the M235 xDrive variants come equipped with a 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo four-cylinder engine. The 228 xDrive delivers 241 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, while the M235 xDrive pumps 312 bhp. For enthusiasts, the M235’s 0-100 kmph time of just 4.7 seconds is brisk on paper. The cars come mated to a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission without a manual option.
Driving Dynamics and Features
The M235 xDrive gets an M Adaptive Suspension. BMW claims to have worked on improving the car’s dynamics with features like preloaded anti-roll bar mounts and a rigid rear axle. Optional M Compound brakes and advanced shock absorber technology further enhance its handling according to the marque.
Interior and Tech
Inside, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe gets an updated cabin with two 10-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Standard features include a 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon sound system, wireless charging, and auto-dimming mirrors. BMW's "Veganza" cruelty-free upholstery should keep Vegans happy, while the M-themed stitched stripes across the dash give it a sporty vibe.
Pricing and Availability in India
While the official pricing for India hasn’t been confirmed yet, the 228 xDrive is expected to be priced around ₹45 lakh, and the M235 xDrive could go up to ₹55 lakh.
