Aprilia Tuono 457 Unveiled - A Street-Naked Twin-Cylinder Powerhouse

Aprilia’s twin-cylinder engine has finally added some oomph to India’s mid-range motorcycle segment. After the success of their aggressive race-ready Aprilia RS457, we will finally have a street-naked version of the bike, the Aprilia Tuono 457.

The bike was first teased internationally in 2024 at the International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA). It is expected to launch in India soon, as it is already being teased on Aprilia India’s website.

Engine and Performance

The upcoming Aprilia Tuono 457 is based on the same platform as its faired sibling, the Aprilia RS 457. The Touno 457 has a 457cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine.

The Aprilia Tuono 457 and RS 457 share the same engine, producing 45.5 bhp at 9,400 rpm and 43.5 Nm of torque at 6,700 rpm. Both motorcycles have a 6-speed gearbox, featuring a slip-and-assist clutch and a bi-directional quick-shifter for seamless gear shifts. However, Aprilia has added a single tooth to the rear sprocket of the Tuono 457 compared to the RS 457. While this modification is expected to impact the bike’s performance characteristics, the exact changes it brings remain unclear.

Aprilia Tuono 457 Key Features and Equipment

The Aprilia Tuono is equipped with the same features and electronics package as the Aprilia RS 457, which includes three levels of Aprilia Traction Control (ATC), Ride-by-wire, three riding modes Eco, Sport and Rain, 5-inch TFT instrument console and smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.

The bike features a twin-spar aluminium frame, with a 41mm inverted fork offering 120mm of wheel travel at the front, and a pre-load adjustable rear monoshock with 130mm of wheel travel. For braking, it is equipped with a 320mm front and a 220mm rear disc brake, both using ByBre callipers and dual-channel ABS as standard. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with 110-section front and 150-section rear tyres.

Aprilia Tuono 457 competition

In 2013, the KTM Duke 390 strongly impacted the Indian motorcycle scene, showcasing the potential of a high-performance machine and setting the stage for KTM’s reputation for delivering exceptional street performance. To this day, the KTM brand is synonymous with raw power and agility. The third-generation KTM Duke 390 will be one of the biggest competitors to the Aprilia Tuono 457.

With an expected price tag of Rs 3.9 lakhs, it will be interesting to see if people are willing to pay almost seventy thousand more for a bit more power and a twin-cylinder engine.
