Mahindra has launched the Thar Roxx based on the company’s Glyde architecture. It claims this platform comes with multiple benefits for the users. These benefits are multifaceted as they help improve both the safety and comfort of passengers in the SUV. These are the top 5 features of it we liked:
35+ Safety Features
The Thar Roxx has a long list of safety features. These will help in two ways: actively work towards preventing an accident and also keep the passenger safe in case of an accident. The prominent features among these include 6 airbags, seat belt reminders, passenger airbag ON/OFF for child safety, ISOFIX mounts, electronic stability control (ESC), Hill Hold Control (HHC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), traction control and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Improved NVH Levels
NVH, or noise, vibration, and harshness, measures the amount of sound that a passenger listens to while travelling in a car. It also takes into consideration the feelings of the passenger. Mahindra has said that it has significantly reduced the NVH levels of the Thar Roxx through an increased stiffness of the body. It has a torsional stiffness of 12.9 kNm/deg and a Bending stiffness of 9.0 kN/mm. This is due to the ring structure that they have adopted for the model.
Substantial Crash Performance
Mahindra claimed that they have worked to ensure that the Thar Roxx can achieve a 5-star crash test rating. To back this, they claim the SUV can take up an impact force of 22.7 tons at 64 km/h and has a frontal crash energy absorption of 363 kJ. Furthermore, the Thar Roxx can protect against a peak deceleration of 32 g.
Capable Suspension
The Thar Roxx gets an independent double wishbone suspension on the front and a rigid axle with penta-link on the rear. These help ensure the bumps felt in the interior are reduced to the minimum for passenger comfort. They also provide the SUV with a better cornering ability.
High ADR Angle and Water-Fording Depth
Being an offroader, the Thar Roxx should be capable of withstanding water as well as high slopes. For the water-filled adventures, Mahindra claimed that the SUV has a water-fording depth (a measure of how deep a car can go) of 650 mm. If you want to go to the mountains, then Mahindra claims the Thar Roxx can climb at an approach angle of 41.7 degrees and a departure angle of 36.1 degrees. The maximum angle of a ramp it can get onto is 23.9 degrees.
