The Maruti Suzuki Dzire will see a generation change in the latter half of this year. India's favourite taxi sedan will be based on the Maruti Suzuki Swift, which will be launched sometime next month. This generation is set to feature various changes from the inside out, including styling upgrades, a new engine, and fresh interiors. We expect it to come out by the second half of 2024. Before that, let's see what is expected of it.
Won't look like the Swift.
While the latest information says that the Swift in India will have unique elements compared to the international spec, the India-exclusive Dzire is expected to be even more different. It will feature a unique rear end section with its unique bumpers, alloy wheels and it may have different headlamps as well. This is in line with Maruti Suzuki's trend of differentiating the two cars more with every changing generation. They might share a lot of bits on the inside, but their looks and styling will be very different.
More Tech than Swift
The Dzire's dashboard is expected to be the same as the Swift, which will have many elements taken from the Baleno and Fronx. Where the sedan will differentiate itself will be in its list of features. If the shots of test mules are to be believed, the Dzire could get features like a first-in-segment single-pane sunroof and a 360-degree camera.
Same Powertrains
One front where the Swift and Dzire will be entirely alike is the engine. The new Dzire will feature the same Z Series 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that the SwiftSwift will get in the 2024 generation change. This engine will replace the long-standing K Series 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. When introduced in India, we expect it to get some upgrades that help with the emissions, efficacy and performance. It will also get a CNG option. The power will be delivered to the engine via a 5-speed manual or an India-centric AMT transmission.
When does it come?
The Dzire might get a change of generation around 3-6 months after the Swift. This will place it well in the festive season, helping Maruti Suzuki boost its sales. However, it might get heavier on the pocket with this generation change. The rivals will remain unchanged in the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor. Will this generation of the Dzire take forward its ever-lasting domination in the compact sedan segment?
