National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the organisation behind the FASTag system has made some changes to its rules that will take effect from August 1. These rules are the most stringent on the users who have FASTags that are older than 5 years and also require action for the ones more than 3 years old. If you fall under that bracket then read ahead, and if your FASTag was issued in the recent times, then check all your information registered is right.
If You have 5 Year Old FASTag
The new rules state that if your FASTag is 5 or more years old, then you will have to replace it with a new one. For this you have to follow the new procedure that has been implemented in ordering a new FASTag. If you too own a FASTag that old, then instantly get it replace to avoid any fines.
If You Have a 3-5 Year Old FASTag
For all FASTags that are between the age of 3 and 5 years, the users are required update their Know Your Customer (KYC) information and get any errors corrected before the deadline of October 31. The FASTags also have to be linked to the vehicle’s registration and the chassis (VIN) number. If you own such a FASTag, contact your bank for the KYC process.
If You Have a Less than 3 Year Old FASTag
If the FASTag of a user is under 3 years, they need to verify the details that are registered with their FASTag account. As we said before, the vehicle’s registration and the chassis (VIN) number should be linked. Along with this, all new owners should update their registration number in 90 days of buying the car.
Measures for FASTag Providers
FASTag providers are required to implement additional measures, including verifying and updating their databases with accurate vehicle information. They must also upload clear photos of the vehicle's front and side to facilitate easier identification and ensure that each FASTag is linked to a mobile number to enhance communication.
How to get new FASTag
If you want to apply for a new FASTag for your vehicle, you can follow any 1 of these 3 methods:
Online
You can apply for a FASTag via any bank with a NETC (National Electronic Toll Collection) approval. You can also apply through digital payment applications. Here are the steps for online registration:
- Go to the bank's website and go to the FASTag section.
- Upload scanned copies of your vehicle's registration certificate and your ID proof.
- Enter the preferred delivery address and pay the fee.
- You will receive your FASTag in some time.
At a POS terminal or bank branch
You can also obtain a FASTag by applying offline at a point-of-sale (POS) terminal or a bank branch. You'll need to submit the necessary documents and complete the application process there.
Using an app
You can buy a FASTag using an app of the bank that you prefer. You can download the app from the App Store or Play Store depending on the if you use android or IOS. Log in to the portal, and follow the instructions to buy a FASTag.
