Kia has revealed the specifications of its upcoming sub-4-metre EV, the Kia Syros EV, ahead of its launch this month. The Kia Syros EV, based on the K1 platform, will be available in two battery pack configurations, the same as the Hyundai Creta EV and Kia Carens Clavis EV. The Kia Syros EV boasts up to 526km ARAI certified MIDC range and supports up to 100kW DC fast charging. Here’s everything you need to know about the Kia Syros EV.
Design
The design of the Kia Syros EV remains similar to its ICE counterpart. Upfront, it gets Kia’s signature “Tiger Nose” grille, vertically slacked DRL’s and ice cube projector headlamps. The Kia Syros EV also gets a 16-litre frunk. The only differences in the profile are a charging port on the front fender and 17-inch aero alloy wheels. Things remain the same at the rear too; it continues to get the same high-mounted L-shaped taillamps. Kia is offering the Syros EV in nine colour options, including Glacier White Pearl, Frost Blue, Gravity Grey, Pewter Olive, Magma Red, Ivory Silver Matte, Ivory Silver Gloss and Aurora Black Pearl. The X-Line variant is available exclusively in Matte Graphite and Aurora Black Pearl colour options.
Interior and Features
Things remain unchanged on the inside, too. It continues to get a 30-inch trinity display, consisting of a 12.3-inch driver’s display, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and a 5-inch temperature control display. It gets features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting, front and rear-seat ventilation, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The Kia Syros EV gets a shift-by-wire system, the same as the Kia Carens Clavis EV and Hyundai Creta EV. It also gets paddle shifters, through which the driver can change regen modes and also activate the i-Pedal. The Kia Syros EV gets safety features like ADAS level 2, six airbags as standard, ESC, BAS, EBD, hill hold, and hill start assist.
Battery and Motor
Kia will offer the Syros EV with two battery pack options. A 42kWh battery which will offer up to 443km ARAI certified MIDC full range. Power comes from a front-axle-mounted motor which produces 133bhp and 255Nm of torque. It will also be offered with a bigger 51.4kWh battery pack, which will offer up to 526km ARAI certified MIDC full range. This variant will also get the same front-axle mounted motor, power figures have increased to 169bhp and 255Nm of torque because of a bigger battery pack. Kia claims that the Syros EV can do 0-100kmph run in just 8.1 seconds (51.4kWh battery pack). Charging duties are handled by a 10.8kW onboard charger, which can charge the Syros EV from 10-100 per cent in (claimed) 4 hours for the 42kWh variant and claimed 4 hours and 30 minutes for the 51.4kWh variant. The Kia Syros EV also supports 100kW DC fast charging. Kia says that 10-80 per cent charging will take just 39 minutes, regardless of battery size.
Pricing and Rivals
Pricing for the Kia Syros EV will be announced later. Interested customers can book the Kia Syros EV with a booking amount of ₹25,000. The Kia Syros EV will rival the Tata Nexon EV, MG Windsor EV, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. We expect that the Kia Syros EV will be priced from ₹12.50 lakh to ₹18.50 lakh (ex-showroom)
