The BMW Z4 Final Edition marks the last chapter for BMW’s two-seat roadster. This special version has been introduced as a farewell before production ends in March 2026. With fewer carmakers building simple open-top sports cars today, this edition gives fans one final chance to enjoy a classic roof-down driving experience.
On the outside, the Final Edition keeps things elegant rather than flashy. It comes in three colours: Frozen Deep Green, Frozen Black and Sanremo Green. Each shade gives the car a different personality. The dark headlamps, black grille surrounds, black mirror caps and black badges help the Z4 look clean and purposeful. The long bonnet and low stance still give it the classic roadster shape that has made the Z4 instantly recognisable over the years. It rides on dark-finished wheels that measure 19-inches at the front and 20-inches at the back, giving it a slightly more planted look.
The cabin has also been given a more special feel. It gets black leather upholstery with neat contrast stitching and metal highlights across the dashboard and door panels. The seats have a patterned finish, making the interior look more upmarket. The centre console uses a glossy black trim, and the overall layout feels simple and tidy. This version also uses BMW’s latest touchscreen system, which is clearer to read and easier to use than before.
The Final Edition is offered with the same engine choices as the standard Z4. The sDrive20i uses a 2-litre petrol engine making 255bhp, while the M40i comes with a larger 3-litre six-cylinder with 340bhp. Both send power to the rear wheels through an automatic gearbox. While some buyers may wish for a manual, the automatic suits the relaxed nature of the car, especially when driving with the roof down. The larger engine in the M40i is still the more enjoyable option, as it feels smoother and stronger throughout the rev range.
BMW says the Final Edition is not about adding big power or major upgrades. Instead, it is meant to honour what the Z4 has always stood for: a simple, enjoyable sports car that focuses on the pleasure of driving rather than numbers or records. The car still feels balanced, easy to live with and comfortable on long trips, all while offering the joy of open-air motoring.
As production slowly winds down, the Z4 Final Edition serves as a gentle reminder of a type of car that is disappearing from the market. It blends familiar charm with a few thoughtful updates, without trying too hard to be something it isn’t. It may not be the fastest or the flashiest roadster, but it holds on to a sense of purity that many modern cars lack. For anyone who has ever wanted a true open-top BMW experience, this is the last chance to get one brand new before it drives off into history.
