Amalgam Collection, makers of some of the most exclusive automotive scale models the world has ever seen, has unveiled an ultra-exclusive replica of the new McLaren W1 hypercar. Each model is built to 1:8 scale and measures over 22 inches in length. The project has taken more than 3000 hours of research and development, with over 300 hours of labour required to build each individual model.
Every part of the car is meticulously handcrafted using thousands of castings, photo-etchings and CNC-machined components. The paint codes and specification data are supplied directly by McLaren Automotive itself, ensuring complete accuracy. The first model to be commissioned wears the same historic McLaren ‘Papaya Orange’ shade as the launch specification car unveiled last year. Each example is built and assembled using bespoke materials by a small, highly skilled team in Bristol, UK.
The McLaren W1 is the successor to the legendary McLaren F1 and McLaren P1. At its heart lies the new MHP-8 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, assisted by a radial-flux electric motor. Together, this hybrid powertrain produces a staggering 1258bhp and 1340Nm of torque. All that power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed transmission and a clever electronic differential.

The W1 weighs just 1399kg and boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 899bhp per tonne — the highest of any McLaren currently in production. The performance figures are equally dramatic: 0-100kmph takes just 2.7 seconds, while 0-200kmph is dispatched in a mere 5.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 350kmph.
Technologically, the W1 is a tour de force. It features a Formula 1-style ground-effect aerodynamic package with active front and rear spoilers, along with a roof-mounted airflow diverter. There is also a ‘virtual longtail’ system, which incorporates an active rear fin that extends by 300mm to enhance aerodynamic efficiency at higher speeds. In total, the W1 can generate approximately 1000kg of downforce.
With an eye-watering price tag of at least ₹24.5 crore, just 399 examples of the real car will ever be produced - and all have already been spoken for. By any measure, it is outrageously exclusive.
However, if the full-sized dream remains out of reach and you still fancy a W1 in your garage - or at least on your desk - you would be wise to act quickly. Just 199 of these miniature masterpieces will be made, each hand-assembled and officially licensed. So while you may not get the keys to the real thing, you can still own a slice of the legend - albeit one that fits far more comfortably on a coffee table than on a racetrack.
Either way, the message is clear: whether full scale or finely scaled down, the W1 was never meant for the many - only the fortunate few.
