First impressions always matter. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S truly blew my mind at its first impression. It’s redefining the electric car segment and sets a groundbreaking benchmark for all EVs—a true game-changer in all senses. With cutting-edge technology, sculpted looks, and mind-boggling performance under the Porsche hood, it is quite a firecracker. A car where electrifying performance meets innovation and pure luxury. It made me feel like I was in a dream, daring to push the boundaries and letting myself free, surging towards the greater future at lightning speed.
When I first heard Turbo S, my brain right away said, “Oh it is Turbo Charged,” but then came the word Taycan with it, all-electric!! Which had me confused. How can an all-electric car have Turbo in its name? Surprisingly, in Porsche’s language, “Turbo” means technological pioneering, extraordinary features, and futuristic marvels. And this car right here has all of it. Just a single feature, and it turned a petrolhead like me into a fan. A claimed 0-100km/h in blistering 2.8 secs. What more do I need from an EV? Let’s find out, shall we?
Verdict
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has kept the Porsche performance legacy going, from its not-at-all-loud yet exhilarating acceleration to its high-class luxury to its smooth as-butter handling and its classic Porsche muscular appearance in an all-electric car. It is moving towards breaking boundaries and achieving heights level by level in the realm of electric cars like never before. Many will agree with me when I say there is no such thing as a bad Porsche, and it will continue to surprise us in the coming future.
Like I said in my review video! Taycan Tubro S has direct competitors. The e-Tron GT RS may have more edgy and aggressive looks, the AMG EQS might be more luxurious, and the Model S Plaid may be faster ( although it’s not in India ), but only a Porsche can make you feel like a badass, and be your partner in crime while breaking the shackles of reality and achieving greatness.
Staying true to Porsche’s legacy, a Porsche never disappoints. Stepping inside the car and grabbing the steering wheel, feeling the Race-Tex on the wheel already had my adrenaline pumping. Just the aura of being in the driver’s seat brought the feeling of wanting to slice through the air, and that is exactly what I did. Starting, I wanted to experience every bit of this machine which comes with a powerful 93.4kWh battery with dual electric motors. With the progressive all-wheel-drive system and adaptive air suspension with PASM, I felt confident in the car and pressed on the pedal. Now let me tell you, I was transported into a high-speed dream wanting to break free from all barriers when I felt the initial torque. Through a 2-speed automatic transmission gearbox, the car pumps 750 horsepower and 1050 NM of torque and does 0-100 km/h in 2.8 secs. One piece of advice for you all if you want to do a launch, better be prepared and brace yourself mentally to feel the forces you are going against. The impressive acceleration and the instant punch just truly amazed me. Within no time, I was driving the car at a high pace, and thanks to the 2-speed gearbox, the car had a constant pace without any lag, which had me grinning. The petrolhead in me was intrigued to test out the electric sports sound, which 100% added a satisfying touch.
Interesting facts: The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the safety car in Formula E, and it also shares the 2-speed automatic gearbox from the Formula E program. The Taycan Turbo S even held the lap record at the renowned Nurburgring until recently, when its rival, the Tesla Plaid S beat it.
As I said before, Porsche never disappoints. The Taycan Turbo S symbolizes the true definition of “On the edge of Perfection”; while driving on curvy roads at high speed, it hugs the road. The handling dynamics pairs amazingly well with power considering the car weighs 2295 kg. The car glides through the corners so effortlessly and feels extremely precise. Take this from a race car driver who is always juggling between understeer and oversteer. We just know how much steering input is the right amount. Porsche has also given many aids such as PTV Plus (Porsche Torque Vectoring), Porsche Recuperation Management, 4D Chassis control, and rear-wheel steering to better the handling. In addition to this, the adaptive air suspension is a boon for the Indian roads to tackle speed breakers and a bit of rough terrain.
Talking about Indian roads, we surely need powerful brakes. Yet again, the race car driver in me was awakened; the 10-piston carbon ceramic brakes at the front and 4-piston at the rear, with the brake callipers painted in yellow, is like adding a cherry on top. They serve looks and use of the car. One extra feature you may like is the Sports Chrono package, where you can time yourself and check out your lap times.
It also has various driving modes, starting from Range mode to Normal to Sport and Sport Plus. The Range Mode means activation of efficiency and energy-saving settings for longer runs, while on the other end, the Sports Plus means activation of the thrilling high-performance setting, including lowering the car to its lowest setting and launch control too.
I just have two words to begin with - Luxury and Technology. Let’s first talk about aesthetic luxury. Porsche’s favourite is the roof lining and GT multi-function steering wheel in the Porsche Race-Tex. The matt carbon finish Taycan badging on the door sill and the chrome finish on the steering wheel and the dashboard are aesthetically appealing. The sports bucket seats kept me comfortable and yet on the edge while driving. Be it interiors or exteriors, the Taycan Turbo S is, in all senses, a very futuristic-looking car. EVs are all about evolving, and this car right here is a true example of pushing boundaries towards the new era with its striking design and fast-forward technology.
Porsche’s innovations don’t stop there; the Driver-Focused Cockpit transports you into a whole new world and serves you a large platter of digital displays right at your fingertips. A huge 16.8 inch ( 42.67 cms ) Curved Display spreads from one end to the other, including another touchscreen control panel on the passenger side with various features from light settings to chassis functions. Joining the platter is the direct touch centre console with climate control setting, battery levels, and various design options for the glass roof, a cool feature, I must say.
All good things apart, I wish there was more legroom at the rear; although Porsche has made some changes and redesigned placement of the batteries to create more, I feel it’s a tad bit less and also had the fold-out armrest being designed better or just some cushioning could have been added between both rear seats, the space would have been occupied better. Then there's the unnecessary complication of the climate control AC vents. Yes, it’s technologically impressive, but not practical. I would not want to try and set the airflow direction of the AC vent on a touch screen while I’m driving. The wireless CarPlay could have been a nice addition, as we get that in almost all cars. But keeping these few small expectations aside, all I can say is I have achieved my dream of driving a car that is the epitome of speed and luxury.
The Taycan Turbo S carries the sporty Porsche DNA throughout the bodyline; it has the evergreen Porsche’s sloping roof line and the muscular, sculpted hood on the front. The contouring of flowing lines on the car give it a much more aerodynamic appearance.
The SportsDesign side skirts, lower valance, and huge rear diffuser with louvred design come with inlays in Carbon. Just like all Porsches, the PDLS Plus comes standard in Matrix LED headlights. As a part of its aerodynamic design, it has auto-deploying door handles. The rear tail lamp light strip extends throughout the rear seamlessly. It also comes with 4-point LED Daytime running lights. We get a good amount of luggage compartments at the front and rear. The rear compartment, even with its extra tire and charging cables, can still fit my racing kit; very impressive.
The charging ports on both sides of the car are a great addition. The AC Type 2 is on the driver’s side, and AC/DC Type 2 is on the Passenger side. The standard Taycan Turbo S with performance battery plus has a battery capacity of 93.4KwH and a fast charging rate of 270 kW. This leads to a super quick charging time from 5 to 80% in just 22.5 minutes when using a high direct current (DC) charger. The driving range is around 330-350 km. There’s an 11kW AC charger that comes with the car. Of course, Porsche has added another futuristic feature to the car; all we have to do to open the charge cover is glide our finger under it and boom, it opens up. It’s easy, isn’t it?
My personal favourites, though, are the Blue “PORSCHE” logo in the glass integrated into the rear light strip, the adaptive rear spoiler, and the 21’ (53.34 cm) Mission E Design Wheels. Quite a combination of the futuristic and legendary Porsche looks.
