British start-up Evoluto Automobili has introduced its first vehicle, a restomod of the Ferrari F355, designed to counter the excesses of modern supercars.
The Evoluto 355 has been designed in a contemporary fashion by Ian Callum, enhancing the classic F355's clean lines. The front features a larger grille and a carbon fiber lip, while the sidelights and pop-up headlights are replaced with new LED units. At the rear, a large diffuser and ring-shaped LED brake lights modernize the look.
The new carbon fiber body panels reduce the car’s weight from the original 1422 kg to a target of 1250 kg, depending on customer specifications. This significant weight reduction aims to enhance performance and agility.
The Evoluto 355’s chassis has been spot welded and reinforced with carbon fiber bracing, improving torsional stiffness by 23%. These reinforcements, focused on key hardpoints like suspension mountings, enhance handling and stability.
Evoluto has revamped the F355’s V8 engine to boost reliability and performance. A new ignition system ensures precise timing, enhancing power and responsiveness. The cylinder head has been ported for better airflow, and a custom camshaft improves high-rev stability. The quill shaft, a known weakness in the original, has been replaced with a strengthened part to reduce vibration and power losses.
The 3.5-liter V8 now produces 420bhp, up from the original 380bhp, making it one of the most powerful engines of its time. This power is delivered through a modified six-speed manual gearbox for a better shift feel. A full-length titanium exhaust system with equal-length headers provides an emotional and distinctive sound.
To manage the improved power-to-weight ratio, the Evoluto 355 features a redesigned suspension with a wider track and upgraded brakes. Modern Brembo slotted discs are standard, with carbon-ceramic discs available for track enthusiasts. Despite these enhancements, the new chassis setup maintains some rear-end slip, thanks to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on 19-inch wheels.
Evoluto plans to build only 55 units of the Evoluto 355, with prices yet to be announced. Each car can be customized with unique paint finishes and interior upholstery. The Evoluto 355, revealed during the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, will make its public debut at Monterey Car Week next month.
