The tag of being the only Austrian two-wheeler brand in India will soon be snatched from KTM as Brixton Motorcycles, another manufacturer hailing from Austria has officially announced its entry in India. They have been making motorcycles for the past 25 years, majorly dipping their hands in retro flavour with modern bits. Exactly the kind of recipe that is selling the most in this part of the world. To take their Indian adventures forward, they have tied a knot with KAW Veloce Motors Pvt. Ltd. India, part of the KAW Group. It is a strategic partnership and Brixton Motorcycles is eyeing to stay in the market, the reason why they have decided to set up a production facility in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
Apart from announcing their arrival, they have also announced their line up to get the Indian motorcyclist’s heart racing. Their assault in the Indian market will be backed by as many as 4 motorcycles! The lineup includes Crossfire 500X, Crossfire 500XC, Cromwell 1200 and Cromwell 1200X.
Let’s get the big Austrian cats out of the way first, shall we? The Cromwell 1200X certainly begs a lot of attention because it is a Scrambler through and through. This urban warrior is powered by a 1,222cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which develops 82bhp at 6,250rpm and 108Nm of peak torque at 3,100rpm. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. KYB sourced telescopic forks and a monoshock at the back perform the absorbing duties. On the other hand, the Cromwell 1200, without the X, is cooked from the same ingredients but offers a different flavour of motorcycling. It is a retro roadster with more focus on road shenanigans.
Their 500cc motorcycles, namely the Crossfire series, derives its oomph from a 486cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which puts down 47bhp at 8,500rpm and 43Nm of peak torque at 6,750rpm. The Crossfire 500X is the cafe racer out of the two 500cc motorcycles that will be brought to our shores. It also follows a rugged pattern but the ruggedness peaks with the 500XC as it is a Scrambler which utilises the same engine as the 500X. What’s worth noting here is the uprated suspension components with more travel… allowing for more fun off the road.
Brixton Motorcycles has announced their presence in these cities first: Pune/PCMC, Mumbai, Nashik, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Cochin, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vapi, and Panjim.
