Tata Altroz Racer is Now Officially The Fastest Indian Hatchback

Tata Altroz Racer has beaten all its competitors for the record of the fastest hatchback in India. This was proven in a track test at the CoASTT Racing Track in Coimbatore, where it pitted against rivals like the i20 N and the Fronx Turbo variant. The award was given to the Altroz Racer by the India Book of Records. Find details ahead. 

The Record

Tata Altroz Racer entered the India Book of Records as the 'Fastest Indian Hatchback' with a record-breaking time of 2 minutes and 21.74 seconds around the CoASTT Racing track in Coimbatore. In a time-attack battle, the Altroz Racer pitted against the Hyundai i20N and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo. The driver on board was Narayan Karthikeyan, one of the only three Indian drivers to have raced in F1. The test was done on June 5, and the results were released today by the India Book of Records. 

This record is a testament to the performance claims made by Tata for the Altroz Racer.

Altroz Racer Powertrain 

The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol guzzler powered this lap time. It churns out 118 Bhp and 170 Nm of torque. This is the same engine found in the Nexon and is tuned the same way. Mated to this engine is a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Racer's exhaust note also has a sportier touch. 

The new engine replaced the iTurbo range of the hatchback that produced 10 hp and 30 Nm less. 

Altroz Racer Other Aspects

Along with the quick powertrain, the Altroz Racer fares well in other important aspects. In terms of design, it has various upgrades to give it a sportier look. Its three available colour options include Atomic Orange, Avenue White and Pure Grey. All of these get a contrasting black finish and white racing lines on the bonnet and roof. The roof in itself is completely blacked out. It has a plush interior with red inserts around AC vents and gear level. The 10.25-inch infotainment panel takes centre stage with a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features include the first-in-class ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera and a sunroof. Safety is also taken care of with features like 6-airbags and ESC.
