The iconic Luna is now electrified - this goes to show how mobility is taking a transformational change. Luna, launched in 1972, has been a blockbuster hit among the masses. The 50cc moped from Pune-based Kinetic Group was a cross between a bicycle and a motorbike and has been seen on Indian roads doing treacherous practical tasks. Now, that same moniker will be seen in electric powertrains.
Now, when you look at the images of Luna, you will surely miss those nostalgic pedals. In its latest avatar, Luna does manage to look simple and practical. Yes, the appeal is slightly changed with the electric battery and motor. It gets a square headlight flanked by bulb indicators. It has a split seat with storage space, a front crash guard, and a rear grab rail. Luna will have two colours on offer – Mulberry Red and Ocean.
Luna now gets a 2kWh battery with a claimed range of 110km. The top speed is capped at 50-55km/hr. It has a hub-mounted motor with a torque output of 22Nm. The Luna now weighs 96 kg. It gets a tubular frame with a telescopic fork at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Braking duties are being taken care of by drums at both ends. It will get 16-inch spoked wheels with TVS Eurogrip tyres.
The Luna is currently seen for sale on an e-commerce website with prices ranging from 72-75 thousand. The official launch is expected to happen soon.
