Maruti Suzuki has decided to recall many of its Wagon R and Baleno models because of a manufacturing issue. Read ahead to see if you need to be worried.
Number of cars and the issue
Maruti Suzuki India has said it will recall over 16,000 hatchbacks, Baleno, and WagonR units. The reason behind this recall is a defect in a part of the fuel pump motor. The company will recall 11,851 units of Baleno and 4,190 units of Wagon R. According to the regulatory filings, these are vehicles from July 30, 2019 and November 1, 2019. There may be a defect in a part of the fuel pump motor. In rare cases, this may lead to engine stalling or engine starting issues.
Should I be Worried?
The only chance you need to worry is that you own either the Wagon R or Baleno, which was manufactured in the specified period. A Maruti Suzuki authorised dealer workshop will contact you soon. If they don't, you should try contacting a dealer nearby.
Is it the first time?
This is not the first instance that Maruti Suzuki is undergoing a recall for Baleno and Wagon R to work on an issue with the fuel pump of the vehicles. The last time this happened was in July 2020, when the Gurgaon-based automaker recalled 1,34,885 units of the vehicles to address problematic fuel pumps. This was intended for the cars manufactured between November 15, 2018, and January 8, 2019.
