Honda Prelude Hybrid Revival

After a long hiatus, the iconic Honda Prelude is set to make a comeback, bringing joy to fans of the sport compact segment. The upcoming model, closely resembling the Prelude concept unveiled last year, promises heritage with modernity. Here's a comprehensive look at what to expect from this eagerly awaited revival.

Honda has confirmed that the new Prelude will be a two-door model based on the Civic platform. Although detailed information is still scarce, it is anticipated to feature the European Civic’s e:HEV hybrid powertrain. This setup combines a 2.0-litre engine with two electric motors, delivering 181 horsepower. For the U.S. market, this figure is expected to be boosted to 200 hp.

There is potential for a more performance-oriented Prelude variant, given the range of powertrains available in the Civic lineup. This could be a nod to the legendary Japanese market Prelude Type S, a model still revered by enthusiasts.

The Prelude first appeared in Japan in 1978 and became a star of the sport compact scene globally, though it never reached Indian shores. The model went silent for years until Honda introduced a new concept at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, signaling the return of the Prelude name.

Honda plans to position the new Prelude as a flagship for its electrified lineup, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Honda’s hybrid technology. While Honda has not provided a specific launch date for Europe, there is no word yet on an Indian release, though it remains unlikely at this stage.
