Ford Performance couldn't let the 500 horsepower (373 kW/507 PS) of magnificence in the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse alone. They thus produced the brand-new Dark Horse R.
The Dark Horse R, a turn-key racecar specifically designed for the circuit, begins at $145,000 and is capable of competing in the new Mustang Challenge. The latter's specifics are still being worked out, but it will be sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and feature around a dozen races at about six various locations.
Even if it's astonishingly unclear, the fact that it's a track-focused Dark Horse model shouldn't come as much of a surprise. There are a few obvious indications that this isn't your ordinary pony car, though. A Borla racing exhaust and 19-inch wheels with specially designed Michelin racing slicks are two of the most important among them. The model also has red recovery hooks because the Mustang was built to crash.
The interior of the cabin has been completely destroyed, so it's a different story there. A retractable steering wheel, a roll cage, and Recaro racing seats with a Sparco harness have all been added to the inside as part of the transformation.
The Dark Horse is already a powerful creature, so the performance improvements aren't as significant as you may imagine. There has a well-known six-speed manual transmission and a little modified 5.0-liter Coyote V8 that now makes more than 500 horsepower (373 kW/507 PS).
As a result, the oil and gearbox coolers have been updated, and the suspension has been tuned for the track and has Multimatic DSSV dampers, adjustable anti-roll bars, and adjustable front camber plates. Additionally, there are safety modifications including a fuel cell and a fire suppression system.
