Car Sales Analysis | August 2022 | Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motors, Kia Motors, Tata Motors, Skoda Auto, Volkswagen India, Mahindra & Mahindra, MG Motors, Nissan Motors India

Auto manufacturers have witnessed respectable growth in the month of August on a year-on-year basis. Despite the demand and supply uncertainty looming in the Indian automotive industry, brands have managed to outperform significantly. The sales figures are even expected to grow manifold as the festive months are about to begin. Here is  the analysis of the sales figures of all the car manufacturers in India.

1) Maruti Suzuki

India's largest car maker manages total sales figures of 1,65,173 units (Domestic+Exports), which is 26.37 per cent more than 1,30,669 units sold during August 2021. However, the MoM sales dipped by around 6.08 per cent as compared to July 2022. Maruti has recently updated its highest-selling car - the Alto. Click here to read the first drive review. In the mini-segment portfolio, the sales of Alto and S-Presso were 22,168 units. In comparison, sales in the compact segment portfolio containing WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, and Dzire were 71,557 units. The combined sales figures of Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and S-Cross were 26,932. Eeco Van managed to clock sales of 11,999 units. Sad part - Only 1516 Ciaz units were sold in June 2022.

 

2) Hyundai Motors

South Korean auto major Hyundai Motors has registered domestic sales of 49,510 units and export sales of 12,700 units, with cumulative sales of 62,210 units for August 2022. Hyundai has ten cars in its portfolio across segments- Grand i10 Nios, i20, i20 N Line, Aura, Venue, Verna, Creta, Alcazar, Tucson and Kona Electric. 3) Tata Motors

Indian homegrown brand has made a tremendous comeback in the Indian market with its new-age vehicles. Tata has managed to clock sales figures of  47,166 units, which is a 68 per cent growth to August 2021. Moreover, EV sales grew by 276 per cent, with a total of 3845 units sold. The Punch and Nexon were the highest-selling cars from Tata's portfolio, with 12006 and 15085 units sold, respectively.

 

4) Kia Motors

Hyundai's sister brand- Kia Motors, has managed to surpass sales expectations ever since its launch in the Indian market. Kia Motors has grown by 48.65 YoY. A total of 22,322 units were sold as compared to 15,016 units sold in August 2021. Seltos is the highest-selling SUV in Kia's stable, with 8,652 units in August 2022, up by 0.38 per cent YoY over 8,619 units sold in August 2021. Sonet is also a popular choice among sub-4m SUV cars, with 7,838 units sold in the past month. Kia has recently launched a top-of-the-line variant of the Sonet known as the X-line. 5) Skoda Auto

It's not just the new SKODA logo that is making headlines. It's the sales growth that has made enthusiasts quite happy. Skoda sold 4222 units, with Kushaq and Slavia as the main contributors to the overall sales. The new strategies and investment seem to be paying dividends with 10 per cent YoY growth compared to August 2021. Moreover, Skoda sold 37,568 cars in the first eight months of 2022, its highest-ever sales figure in a calendar year in the company's 20+ years of operations in India.

 

6) Volkswagen India

VW is also taking respectable growth in sales figures. However, the number of units sold is nearly 50 per cent less than that of Skoda India. The brand sold 2057 units, which is 26 per cent more than in August 2021. The sales figures are expected to grow with the onset of the festive season.

 

7) Mahindra and Mahindra

M&M has recently revealed its ambitious future plans with its electric vehicles, which are expected to hit on Indian roads from December 2024 onwards. Click here to read about Mahindra's INGLO EV platform. The brand's sales figure grew by 87 per cent, with a total of 29,852 units sold in August 2021.

 

8) MG Motors

MG Motors encountered a lousy month in terms of sales growth as the brand managed to sell 3,823 units, an 11 per cent decline on an MoM basis compared with July 2022. However, the automaker is optimistic about its growth in the coming months.

 

9)Nissan Motors India

Nissan Motor India registered cumulative sales of 8915 units, including domestic of 3283 units and export of 5632 units for August 2022. The 29 per cent YoY growth gives the brand a positive outlook about its future in India. Magnite has been the brand's major contributor to this significant growth.
