Chinese Automaker - BYD is keeping an ambitious eye on the Indian market. BYD has been the key pillar of innovations and development of EVs. They have recently unveiled the Seal U SUV at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show. It will be available in electric as well as plug-in hybrid options in the global market; however, in India - it might be available in electric version only. BYD Seal sedan and Seal U SUV share the same platform, and Seal is expected to launch soon on March 5.
Keeping the advent of safety ratings and innovation, the BYD Seal U SUV has a five-star Euro NCAP rating and a mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain system. It has two batteries and motor power output options. In batteries, it has a 71kWh or an 87kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, with a claimed range of 520km and 605km, respectively. The BYD Seal U features a 140 kW DC rapid charging capability, allowing for charging from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in just 28 minutes. Regarding motors, there are two options available with power outputs of 207hp and 221hp, respectively.
There's also a PHEV option with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 107 hp of peak power. There's a 197hp electric motor mated to a CVT. An 18.3 kWh battery offers 110 km of electric-only range, 30-80% charge in 35 minutes. More features include a sliding panoramic sunroof, wraparound ambient lighting, a head-up display, compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 4G connection system, Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, NFC keyless entry via a card or iPhone, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology as standard.
BYD Seal electric sedan to be launched in India, which is expected to be priced at the 50-lakh mark and will go up against the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. More details on March 5.
