25,000 Units of BMW R 1300 GS Recalled

BMW has issued a massive recall for its recently launched R 1300 GS. This applies to the models that were produced before March 18, 2024. The bikes are facing a starting issue due to a faulty relay. What is concerning is that the brand held a service camp to take care of the issue, but it is still present.

The Problem

The issue lies with the bike's relay motor, which gives drivers starting issues. Approximately 25,000 units of the ADV appear to be affected by the issue; however, only 8 cases have been reported where a relay was burnt or melted. Along with the hardware, BMW will also have to make changes to the models' software.

Solution of the Problem

The brand is substituting the semiconductor relay with a new electromechanical starter relay. Only R 1300 GS units produced before March 18, 2024, are included in this recall. The latest models have already been fitted with the correct components.

Good News for Indian Buyers

The bike was introduced in India in June, and all bikes imported for this market should have been manufactured after that date. Considering that the issue exists mainly in bikes that were produced before March 18, it is likely the main reason why the recall hasn't been issued in India. That being said, keep an eye on issues like frequent stalling.
