The VinFast VF7: Vietnam’s Electric SUV Makes India Debut

The electric SUV market in India is set to expand further in 2025. The Vietnamese automaker VinFast will introduce its first VF7 model at the Auto Expo 2025. Positioned as a mid-size electric SUV, the VF7 will compete with established players like the Mahindra XEV 9e and the upcoming Tata Harrier EV.

Design and Dimensions
The VinFast VF7 is comparable to the Tata Harrier and larger than models like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara. It offers a spacious footprint, measuring 4,545 mm in length, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm.
  • Front Design: The VF7’s front end features a full-width logo integrated with LED DRLs. The bumper sports an aggressive design with sharp, sleek lighting elements.

  • Side Profile: The SUV’s side view is reminiscent of the VF9. It features standout alloy wheels, gloss black-finished wheel arches, and flush door handles for a premium look.

  • Rear Styling: At the back, connected LED tail lights sit above the “VINFAST” lettering. A shark fin antenna and a roof-mounted spoiler enhance the sporty design.

Interior and Features
Inside, the VF7 boasts a dual-tone theme for a premium feel. Key highlights include:
  • Dashboard: The dashboard features a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the AWD variant gets a larger 15-inch unit. Horizontal AC vents are below the screen.

  • Driver Display: Instead of a traditional instrument cluster, the vehicle features a heads-up display for essential driving information.

  • Steering: A flat-bottom steering wheel adds a sporty touch.

  • Premium Features: Amenities like a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and connected car technology are included. Safety is bolstered with a 360-degree camera, up to 8 airbags, an electronic stability programme (ESP), and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Powertrain and Performance
The VF7 has a 75.3 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-certified range of up to 450 km. Two powertrain options are available globally:
  • Single Motor (Front-Wheel Drive): Produces 201 bhp and 310 Nm.

  • Dual Motor (All-Wheel Drive): Delivers 349 bhp and 500 Nm.

It remains to be seen whether the dual-motor AWD variant will be launched in India.

Pricing and Competition
The VinFast VF7 is expected to be priced above ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, it will compete with the Mahindra XEV 9e and the Tata Harrier EV. With its unique Vietnamese origin and design language, the VF7 adds an intriguing alternative to the growing mid-size electric SUV segment.
