If you’ve recently parked a brand-new G90 BMW M5 in your driveway and felt a tiny pang of guilt every time someone reminded you of its not-so-svelte kerb weight, help has arrived. Sort of.

Mansory, the German outfit known for its over-the-top transformations, has turned its tools to BMW’s latest plug-in hybrid hyper-saloon. And in classic Mansory fashion, it features a significant amount of carbon fibre.

We’re talking forged carbon across the bonnet, side skirts, rear bumper, diffuser, and just about anywhere else a body panel exists. The bonnet’s new sculpted look resembles something between a jet intake and a tribute to '90s tokusatsu TV. We’re not saying it looks like a Power Ranger’s helmet, but we’re not not saying it either.

The M5’s new outfit also includes 22-inch lightweight forged wheels and a triple-exit exhaust that has more than a hint of Ferrari F40 to it – or possibly a particularly enthusiastic Honda Civic Type R. Either way, it’s loud, proud and obvious.

Under all this sculpted theatre lies a significant performance upgrade. The 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid system now delivers a staggering 838bhp (up from 727) and 1,150Nm of torque (previously 1,000Nm). There’s no official word on how this was achieved, though it likely involved extensive ECU recalibration and, judging by appearances, another helping of forged carbon atop the engine itself.

Interior shots haven’t been released yet, but if Mansory’s past work is any guide, expect a cocktail of Alcantara, stitched leather and more carbon than a mining conference.

Was the G90 M5 crying out for this much attention? Possibly not. But tuning, like fashion, doesn’t always follow logic. Sometimes, it just wants to wear a cape made of carbon fibre and shout, “Look at me!” in Bavarian.
