Renault India has expanded the Triber range with the launch of the new Triber Turbo, which marks the Indian debut of Renault Group’s new Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP). While the car retains the familiar Triber design and its flexible seven-seat layout, Renault says it has been extensively re-engineered underneath with a new turbocharged engine, revised suspension, structural enhancements and updated vehicle dynamics. The biggest change comes in the form of a 1.0-litre turbocharged TCe 100 petrol engine, which produces 100PS and 180Nm of torque. The Triber Turbo also claims a certified fuel efficiency of 21kmpl, while retaining its sub-four-metre footprint and modular seating configuration for five, six or seven occupants. The new Triber Turbo is offered in Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants, with prices ranging from ₹7.84 lakh to ₹8.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Design
Exterior
The Triber Turbo retains the familiar exterior design of the existing Triber, but underneath its familiar skin sits Renault's new RGEP architecture. The new platform has been developed to support multiple powertrains and future regulatory requirements, while also allowing Renault to improve the vehicle's ride, handling and structural characteristics. The car continues with a sub-four-metre footprint, making it eligible for the applicable small-car taxation benefits. Exterior equipment includes LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs and LED taillamps, along with roof rails capable of carrying up to 50kg. The Triber also gets a claimed 182mm ground clearance, which should help it deal with Indian road conditions.
Interior
The Triber Turbo continues with the model's key strength, its highly flexible cabin. The seating arrangement can be configured for five, six or seven occupants, with Easy-Fix third-row seats and a second row that can slide, recline and tumble forward for easier access. The boot can accommodate up to 625 litres with five seats in place. The cabin also offers 23 litres of interior storage space and what Renault describes as best-in-class third-row space. Depending on the variant, the Triber Turbo gets an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital LED instrument cluster, automatic air-conditioning, cruise control, wireless charging, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlamps. It also gets a Smart Access Card and push-button start/stop.
Another notable feature is the independent rear air-conditioning system, with dedicated vents for the second and third rows.
Engine and Performance
The biggest update to the Triber Turbo is its new 1.0-litre turbocharged TCe 100 petrol engine. The engine produces 100hp and 180Nm, with Renault describing the latter as segment-leading torque. The engine is paired with a manual transmission in the Triber Turbo. Renault has also developed a new Renault Engine Management System (R-EMS) to optimise performance, responsiveness and efficiency. The engine is not the only area that has been changed. Renault has reworked the thermal-management system, suspension geometry, braking calibration and vehicle dynamics. The car also gets front and rear anti-roll bars, MTV damper technology and structural enhancements aimed at improving durability and crash performance. The thermal-management system uses a Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) cooling fan, which Renault says allows more precise cooling management and improved energy efficiency. Despite the increase in performance, the Triber Turbo has a claimed certified fuel efficiency of 21kmpl.
Pricing
The new Triber Turbo is available in three variants: Evolution, Techno and Emotion. Prices for the turbocharged TCe 100 version start at ₹7.84 lakh and go up to ₹8.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Triber Turbo Evolution MT is priced at ₹7.84 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Techno MT costs ₹8.53 lakh (ex-showroom). The range-topping Emotion MT is priced at ₹8.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
For reference, Renault also continues to offer the naturally aspirated Energy petrol engine, with prices starting at ₹5.80 lakh for the Authentic MT and going up to ₹8.05 lakh for the Emotion MT. The Energy AMT is available only in the Emotion variant at ₹8.52 lakh.
