If you thought the MINI was all about tight city corners and cheeky smiles, think again. The new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman All4, launched today at the Buddh International Circuit, is the biggest, brawniest, and most powerful MINI to hit Indian tarmac. And at ₹64.9 lakh (ex-showroom), it’s also the most serious about performance.
The Countryman JCW comes to India as a completely built-up import and bookings are now open across all MINI dealerships. Deliveries begin soon, perfect timing if you fancy spicing up your garage before the year ends.
Big heart, small badge
Under that sporty bonnet sits a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine pushing out 300bhp and 400Nm. Those numbers catapult the MINI from 0–100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 250 kmph. That’s hot-hatch pace in a crossover body, and a reminder that this MINI doesn’t just wear the John Cooper Works badge for decoration.
Power goes to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch Steptronic Sport gearbox, ensuring traction no matter what the surface, according to the brand. There’s even a Boost mode, which temporarily unleashes everything the car’s got, useful for those sudden overtaking moments or to remind sports cars who’s boss.
Design with attitude
The new JCW Countryman looks the part too. The octagonal black grille, bold LED headlights with JCW signature lighting, and chilli red highlights scream performance without being brash. The roof and mirrors wear their contrasting colours proudly, whether you go for Legend Grey, Midnight Black, or the evergreen British Racing Green. The C-pillar and the downward-tapering roofline add a hint of dynamism to its otherwise upright stance.
The red callipers behind the 19-inch JCW Runway Spoke wheels are a high-performance braking system designed for the quick stuff. And that quad exhaust? Looks great, can't wait to hear it in person.
Inside, all grown up
Inside, MINI has toned down the clutter and turned up the tech. The dashboard is cleanly split, with the signature toggle bar now floating below the circular OLED display, the car’s digital nerve centre. The MINI Operating System 9 runs slickly, and you can now simply say “Hey MINI” to summon its digital assistant.
The seats are snug JCW sport units finished in Vescin and Cord, while aluminium paddles on the JCW steering wheel complete the go-kart vibe. Practicality hasn’t been sacrificed; the rear seats slide by up to 130 mm, expanding boot space from 500 litres to a cavernous 1,450 litres. And yes, there’s a panoramic roof, because light makes everything feel faster.
Tech that keeps up
The Countryman JCW is loaded to its roof rails with clever kit. The MINI Digital Key Plus turns your phone into a key, there’s wireless charging, a Harman Kardon sound system, and even a fisheye camera for in-cabin selfies.
Safety is taken seriously, too. You get multiple airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, Brake Assist, Cornering Brake Control, ABS, and a 360-degree camera system. MINI’s all-wheel-drive All4 setup ensures grip even when the weather (or your ambition) turns slippery.
The summary
The new John Cooper Works Countryman All4 is MINI at its most grown-up and most unhinged, all at once. It’s an SUV with a go-kart soul, a family car that loves a racetrack.
