Mercedes-Benz unveils the all-electric CLA with 792km range in India

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the all-electric CLA with EQ Technology ahead of its India launch next month. Expected to be priced from around Rs 65 lakh ex-showroom, the new CLA 250+ promises one headline number above all else. A claimed WLTP range of 792km. That puts it among the longest-range electric sedans on sale globally.

Coupe styling, illuminated face

The new CLA Electric leans heavily into its coupe proportions. It gets a low-sloping roofline, flush door handles and 18-inch alloy wheels. Up front sits a large illuminated hexagonal grille, flanked by connected LED headlamps with a tri-star daytime running light signature. The rear mirrors that theme with connected LED tail lamps use the same pattern. A subtle boot lip spoiler and a clean bumper design keep things tidy.

A digital-heavy cabin

Inside, the CLA Electric gets an upright dashboard with backlit trim elements and Mercedes’ new six-spoke steering wheel. The centre console is minimalist thanks to the gear selector being mounted on the steering column. There is a 14-inch touchscreen running the new MB.OS system, paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Other highlights include powered, ventilated and massaging front seats, a fixed panoramic glass roof, wireless charging and augmented reality navigation. The front sports seats use fabric made from recycled PET bottles, adding a sustainability angle to the cabin.

85.5kWh battery and two-speed gearbox

Power comes from an 85.5kWh battery pack paired with a rear-mounted motor producing 268 bhp and 335 Nm. Mercedes claims 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds. Interestingly, the CLA Electric uses a two-speed automatic transmission. The idea is simple. One ratio for strong acceleration, the second for efficiency at higher speeds. The car sits on an 800V architecture and supports up to 240kW DC fast charging. Mercedes says this can add up to 400km of range in 20 minutes under ideal conditions.

Safety and positioning

The CLA Electric comes with Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, hill hold assist and front and rear parking sensors. It also carries a five-star Euro NCAP rating and was the highest-scoring car tested by the agency in 2025. When launched, it will primarily rival the BYD Seal, while also overlapping in price with the Kia EV6.

The takeaway

A near 800km claimed range, 800V charging architecture and a two-speed gearbox are not typical entry-level luxury sedan traits. If priced around Rs 65 lakh, the CLA Electric could make a strong case for itself. The question now is how close real world range comes to that ambitious 792km figure.
