Maruti Suzuki Victoris Scores Big on Safety

Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming SUV, the Victoris, has just undergone crash testing, and the results are pretty stellar. The India-made model has been assessed under the updated Automotive Industry Standard (AIS-197) protocols and has scored high in both adult and child protection. For a brand that often finds itself under scrutiny for safety, this is a noteworthy turn.

Highlights

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 31.66/32

  • Child Occupant Protection: 43/49

  • Tested variant: ZXI+ Strong Hybrid eCVT, ZXI+(O) Strong Hybrid eCVT & ZXI+(O) 6AT

  • Body type: 2-row SUV

  • Crash test weight: 1,549 kg

  • Safety tech: ESC, curtain airbags, pedestrian protection, seatbelt reminders

Key Details

The Victoris comes fitted with multiple airbags, including frontal, side head curtain, and knee airbags. Standard-fit electronic stability control (ESC) and pedestrian protection tech further boost its credentials. In crash tests, it performed almost flawlessly:

  • Frontal offset test: 15.66 out of 16

  • Side impact test: 16 out of 16

  • Child protection: Perfect dynamic score (24/24), with ISOFIX mounts and strong CRS compatibility

The SUV’s child protection score is among the best we’ve seen from Maruti, thanks to proper ISOFIX anchorage and i-Size compatibility for rearward-facing restraints.

Variants covered under this rating include the petrol 1.5L with manual, automatic, and strong-hybrid options. Notably, the high-spec ZXI+ and ZXI+(O) trims have the full suite of airbags and tech.

With scores of 31.66/32 for adults and 43/49 for children, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris positions itself as one of the safest Indian SUVs in its class. For customers, this means peace of mind without sacrificing Maruti’s trademark efficiency and affordability. Safety is finally front and centre in the company’s playbook, something buyers in India have been demanding for years.
