Hyundai IONIQ 3 revealed!

Hyundai has unveiled the IONIQ 3, a new all-electric hatchback designed to make everyday EV driving simpler and more practical.

The big idea here is something Hyundai calls an “Aero Hatch”. It is essentially a compact hatchback shaped for better efficiency, with a low nose, a long roofline and a neatly integrated rear spoiler. The result is a drag coefficient of 0.263, which should help maximise range.

There are two battery options. A standard pack offers a claimed range of 344km, while the larger battery targets up to 496km. Charging is fairly quick too, with a 10 to 80 percent top-up taking about 29 minutes under ideal conditions.

Performance is modest but adequate. Power outputs are around 134 to 145bhp, with 250Nm of torque and a top speed of 170kmph. This is clearly more about efficiency than outright pace.

Inside, the focus shifts to space. Despite its compact footprint, the IONIQ 3 gets a long wheelbase and a flat floor, which frees up cabin room. Hyundai claims genuine five-seat comfort, with enough width at the back for three adults. Boot space stands at 441 litres, along with additional underfloor storage.

The cabin layout is clean and tech-focused. A new infotainment system called Pleos Connect runs on Android Automotive and is designed to be more intuitive to use. Screen sizes range from 12.9 inches to 14.6 inches, depending on the variant.

Features include digital key access, vehicle-to-load functionality and an integrated route planner that factors in charging stops. The idea is to make EV ownership easier rather than more complex.

Safety systems are comprehensive. The IONIQ 3 gets Hyundai’s SmartSense suite, including highway assist, remote parking, surround view monitoring and blind spot display.

Design-wise, it follows Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ philosophy, with clean surfaces and pixel lighting elements that tie it to the rest of the IONIQ range. There are also multiple wheel sizes and an N Line variant for a sportier look.

The IONIQ 3 is aimed at everyday usability rather than headline performance. It is compact, efficient and built around practicality, which is where most EV buyers are likely to place their priorities.
