Enthusiasts ahoy! The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ is coming to India

Mercedes-AMG has confirmed that they will be launching the E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ in the Indian market on 23rd July. The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ will be Mercedes’s second PHEV for India and it will be brought to the Indian shores via CBU route. Here’s everything you need to know about the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+.

Design

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ gets sportier AMG-specific styling. Up front, it features the signature AMG grille with illuminated vertical slats, a more aggressive bumper, larger air intakes, and wider front fenders that enhance its muscular stance. In the profile it gets flush-fitting door handles, sculpted surfaces, AMG side skirts, and 19-inch alloy wheels as standard, with larger 20-inch and 21-inch wheels available as an option. At the rear, it gets connected LED taillights with the Mercedes star light signature, an AMG spoiler lip, sporty diffuser, and quad round exhaust outlets. Hybrid-specific badges on the front fenders and tailgate subtly distinguish it from other AMG models.

Powertrain

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ is powered by a 3-litre in-line six-cylinder and a 120kW electric motor. This powertrain produces combined power output of 577bhp, 603bhp with race start and 750Nm of torque. The 120kW electric motor is integrated in the AMG speedshift TCT 9G transmission which sends power to all four wheels. Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ does 0-100 run in a claimed time of just 3.8 seconds with race start which is basically a launch control system which draws power from the 28.6kWh battery and helps the car to launch extremely quickly. The 28.6kWh battery pack enables the E 53 to drive up to 100km in pure electric mode. The battery content which can be used is 21.22kWh and the rest of the battery is reserved for boosting and high-performance driving. Mercedes-AMG claims that the E 53 is capable of hitting an electronically limited top-speed of 280kmph and 140kmph top-speed in pure electric mode. Charging duties are handled by a 11kW on-board AC charger but the battery can also be charged by a 60kW DC fast charger which can charge the battery from 10-80 per cent in 20 minutes.

Interior

On the inside, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ gets AMG-specific trim elements, sports seats with red contrast stitching, and a Nappa leather AMG steering wheel with integrated controls. The cabin can also be equipped with the optional MBUX Superscreen, while the infotainment system features AMG-specific displays along with hybrid-focused information such as battery charge status, temperature, and electric driving range. The E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ comes with AMG Dynamic select, offering multiple drive modes including Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Smoothness, Individual, and the hybrid-specific Electric and Battery Hold modes. These modes alter parameters such as power delivery, transmission response, steering weight, suspension settings, and sound characteristics. Drivers can conveniently switch between modes using the rotary controller mounted on the steering wheel.

Price and Rivals

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ will rival the BMW M5. We expect that Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ will be priced anywhere between ₹ 1.25 crore to ₹ 1.75 crore (ex-showroom)
