At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, BYD's premium sub-brand YangWang unveiled its flagship model, the U8 luxury SUV. This full-size SUV combines cutting-edge technology, a robust plug-in hybrid powertrain, and a distinctive design to provide comfort and capability.
Design
The BYD U8 exudes a commanding presence with its muscular and bold design. Rugged aesthetics dominate its appearance, highlighted by a blacked-out grille, alloy wheels, and roof. The SUV also features substantial, chunky design elements, enhancing its road presence. A full-size spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and intricate tail lamp detailing complete the exterior design.
Interior and Features
The U8's cabin prioritizes luxury. Soft-touch leather materials cover the dashboard and other surfaces, delivering a premium tactile experience. A vertically oriented infotainment screen at the centre sits above a limited array of physical controls, complemented by a large driver's display. Entertainment screens for the co-driver and rear occupants elevate passenger comfort, and a 22-speaker surround sound system is designed to deliver high-quality audio performance.
Powertrain
The U8's plug-in hybrid powertrain includes a large battery pack paired with a petrol engine, offering a remarkable combined range of up to 1,000 kilometres. The four independent electric motors produce a staggering 1,184 bhp, propelling the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds (top-spec variant).
Designed to handle extreme conditions, the U8 has advanced features, including the ability to float in water for up to 30 minutes and execute a "tank turn" for agile manoeuvrability on challenging terrains.
While there is no official confirmation regarding its launch in India, the BYD U8, with its luxury features and off-road prowess, could be a compelling option for discerning buyers seeking an adventure-ready, high-performance SUV.
