Royal Enfield Ushers in Electric Era, Flying Flea C6 Unveiled!

It is safe to say that last night, the Indian motorcycling scenario ushered in a new era. A legacy player like Royal Enfield has finally entered the electric motorcycle segment as it unveiled a brand new vertical that would cater to EVs going forward. Called the Flying Flea, it pays homage to the World War era when RE also played a quintessential role. The first motorcycle to be unveiled under the new brand is dubbed the C6 and needless to say, it looks pretty unique. A sleek and slender looking motorcycle, the C6 is touted to be a fun city motorcycle that can be taken out of city limits as well. However, RE has strictly said that it is not going to be a touring motorcycle by a long shot. Even the size of the battery pack indicates the same.

What can we expect?

Although the company is yet to reveal the performance figures, keys specs as well as range, there are still some juicy details which are already out. For instance, the LOOKS! It was spotted testing in Europe a few days back and now that it has shown its pretty face to the world, it is safe to say that RE has made it with love. It might not command sheer road presence but there’s one thing for sure, the quality levels and attention to details seems to be the best that we have seen from RE’s stable so far. The retro inspiration can be clearly seen on the C6 as it gets a round headlamp and tail lamp setup that complements the rest of the motorcycle. The version that was unveiled to the public, had only a single seat but a pillion seat can also be added as an accessory.

That being said, one of the most standout features about the C6 has to be the girder fork setup at the front. This robust-looking setup harkens back to the motorcycling days of 1930s and 1940s and hence, in this modern era, the C6 is going to be the only production motorcycle in the world to utilize this setup. It is also worth noting here that the C6 is going to be a very premium offering as it is being underpinned by a forged aluminium frame. Even the battery casing is covered in magnesium. As can be seen in the pictures, the C6 is going to feature a round TFT instrument cluster which is expected to be touchscreen enabled. Since the C6 is going to be a testimony of RE’s technological prowess, it is also going to get cornering ABS and traction control. RE claims that as many as 28 patents are pending when it comes to the C6.

The next electric offering from Royal Enfield

Not only the C6 and the Flying Flea vertical, but RE also gave us a sneak peek into the future of their electric motorcycling. The next electrified offering from RE after the C6 is going to be the S6 which is essentially a Scrambler version of the C6. Hints that were dropped by RE indicate that the S6 is going to get aluminium spoke wheels, USD forks, 60 % more suspension travel and enduro inspired one piece long seat. Not only this, the S6 is also expected to clock faster 0-60kmph timing as compared to the C6.

That being said, the C6 is not expected to hit the streets soon. 2026 is when RE is saying that they will start offering the C6 to the public. Given the level of fit and finish, we are expecting the C6 to command a premium pricing that could see the sticker price shooting upwards of INR 3 Lakh at least.
