KTM Launches its Big Bikes in India; MX Bikes Also On Offer

The Indian motorcyclists got to celebrate Children’s Day in a rather unique way as KTM India went ahead and launched its big toys, both for adults and kids. Ever since KTM marked its foray in the Indian market, they have managed to capture the hearts of enthusiasts. However, until now they were shying away from offering their more flavourful dishes. Things changed yesterday as Delhi braved through the heat of these newly launched KTM monsters. They had something for everyone. A middleweight naked? You got it. A full blown ADV? The 890 Adventure R has finally arrived. A super-mental naked? 1390 Super Duke R will do the job. Motocross motorcycles? They launched those too. Having spent an entire day ogling at these beauties, it is now time for us to let you devour the details.

KTM 890 Duke R

The 890 Duke R has been priced at INR 14.5 Lakh, making it a lot more expensive than the 790 Duke that was on sale in India at around INR 8.5 Lakh. Although KTM wouldn’t want to admit it but if you look at it that way, this is basically stock clearance. The 990 Duke R has already replaced the 890 in international markets and the 890’s Indian pricing is certainly not going to help its case. Especially if you consider that the Triumph Street Triple RS has been capped at INR 11.8 Lakh.

The 889cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor in the 890 Duke R puts down 121PS and 100NM. Since it is the R variant, it also benefits from fully-adjustable WP Apex suspension components at either ends. This KTM somewhat tries to justify its pricing by offering top shelf equipment. Look at the braking prowess for instance as it gets Brembo Stylema calipers.

KTM 890 Adventure R

Hardcore off-road enthusiasts have been bugging KTM India since forever to launch their big burly ADVs. Although they are now acing other aspects of motorcycling, KTM’s forte still remains their prowess in the world of off-roading. The 890 Adventure R is a standing testimony to that, a tall one. Priced at INR 15.8 Lakh, the 890 Adventure R utilises the same engine as the Duke R but in a slightly detuned state as it puts down 105PS and the same 100NM of torque. The 890 Adventure R boasts top-tier off-road prowess as it gets WP’s Xplor suspension with 240mm of travel at both the ends. The suspension setup is fully-adjustable, because, duh!

 KTM 1390 Super Duke R

The super-mental naked from KTM has finally landed on our shores. Having seen it personally now, we can attest to the fact that it’s just not the numbers that have garnered it the name ‘The Beast’ but it is also because of the way it looks. The numbers are even more mental though. Its 1350cc, V-twin engine has been tuned to deliver 190PS and 145NM of peak torque. 145NM. Yes. You read that right. Since it sits just below its EVO variant, the 1390 Super Duke R is loaded to the gills as well. It gets WP’s semi-active suspension system which brings along as many as five modes. Brembo Stylema callipers have been assigned the task to bring this beast to a screeching halt. Needless to say, it is also loaded with an extensive electronics suite as it gets a lean-sensitive traction control, ride modes, ABS modes, TPMS wheelie-control and much more! The 1390 Super Duke R is currently the most expensive KTM motorcycle on sale in India as it is priced at INR INR 22.96 Lakh!

KTM 1290 Super Adventure S

For people who wish to have a road-oriented ADV-tourer with madness written all over it, KTM is offering the 1290 Super Adventure S. This big, burly KTM has been priced at INR 22.74 Lakh, making it the second most expensive motorcycle in the lineup, only after the 1390 Super Duke R. The 1290 Adventure S derives its madness from a 1301cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled motor that makes 160PS and 138NM. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox which comes married to a bi-directional quickshifter and a slipper clutch. The Super Adventure S also benefits from a semi-active suspension system sourced from WP. One of the standout features on the Super Adventure S are its cornering lights.

Off-road and MX bikes

Apart from road-legal brutality, KTM has also unleashed its dedicated off-road range for India including Enduro and MX bikes. KTM wishes to enhance and boost the off-road scene in India and they understand that it has to be done on the lowest level. This is the reason why they will now offer motocross bikes for kids as well. The lineup includes the 50 SX, 65 SX and the 85 SX. The underpinnings of both the 50 SX and the 65 SX are the same as they deploy 35 mm XACT WP USD fork and XACT WP monoshock.

However, the bigger 85 SX deploys a 43 mm XACT WP USD fork and XACT WP PDS monoshock. Their prices start at INR 4.75 Lakh for the 50 SX and goes up to INR 6.69 Lakh for the 85 SX. Not just these, but KTM has also launched motocross bikes for adults as well. This lineup includes the 250 SX-F and the 450 SX-F. They’re priced at INR 10.25 Lakh and INR 12.96 Lakh respectfully. This entire lineup is further spiced up by the presence of 350 EXC-F Six Days which is an out and out Enduro motorcycle. The bike is powered by a 349cc, 1-cylinder, 4-stroke engine that produces 45 PS @ 9500 rpm. As for the price? This Enduro beauty will set you back by INR 12.96 Lakh.
