Kawasaki has revealed the 2027 Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE, expanding its sports-touring motorcycle range with a 948cc inline-four engine, an all-new steel trellis frame and advanced electronic rider assistance systems. The new models combine the versatility associated with the Versys family with the sporty performance of Kawasaki’s inline-four engine, making them suitable for everything from daily riding to long-distance touring.
Both motorcycles feature a 5-inch TFT display, smartphone connectivity, an IMU-supported electronic control system and Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS). The Versys 900 is designed to offer a balance of performance, comfort and practicality, while the SE variant adds touring-focused equipment as standard.
Design and Colour Options
The 2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 features an updated design that combines the upright proportions of a sports tourer with sharper, sportier styling. Kawasaki’s Aero Edge concept uses sculpted bodywork and floating design elements to create a visual impression of airflow around the motorcycle. Its balanced proportions are intended to complement the agile character of the chassis.
Both variants use an all-new steel trellis frame designed to provide stability at high speeds while maintaining responsive handling on winding roads. The chassis geometry targets a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, with the aim of balancing agility and stability when riding solo or carrying a passenger and luggage.
The standard Versys 900 will be available in Pearl Robotic White and Metallic Spark Black. The Versys 900 SE gets two distinct colour schemes: Plasma Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black and Firecracker Red/Metallic Carbon Gray.
Both variants can accommodate Kawasaki’s touring luggage system, comprising a 47-litre top case and two 32-litre panniers. The mounting system is designed for convenient installation and removal, while dampers help maintain stability when the motorcycle is fully loaded.
Engine and Performance
Both the Kawasaki Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE are powered by a 948cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke inline-four engine inspired by Kawasaki’s Z-series supernaked motorcycles. It produces 122hp at 9500 rpm and 97.3 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm.
Kawasaki has tuned the engine to deliver strong, smooth torque at low and medium engine speeds, making it manageable during everyday riding. As the revs rise, the engine offers a linear response and the characteristic acceleration of an inline-four powerplant. Long final gearing is also intended to improve comfort during highway cruising.
The motorcycles feature Kawasaki’s Quick Shifter (KQS), allowing clutchless gear changes. Power modes, integrated riding modes, Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), the Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF) and enhanced ABS are also part of the electronic package.
Features and Technology
Both versions receive a comprehensive electronics package. The Versys 900 range introduces ARAS to the Versys family for the first time, bringing Adaptive Cruise Control Lite, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Detection. An Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) is also included to alert following traffic during hard braking.
An inertial measurement unit (IMU) supports the electronic control systems, including enhanced ABS. The combination of traction control, integrated riding modes and power modes is designed to help riders make use of the engine’s performance across a variety of road conditions.
A 5-inch full-colour TFT instrument display offers two layouts. One emphasises engine speed and the motorcycle’s sporty character, while the other prioritises navigation and vehicle information. Smartphone connectivity through the RIDEOLOGY THE APP MOTORCYCLE application enables turn-by-turn navigation on the instrument display, along with voice-command functionality for compatible features.
What Does the Kawasaki Versys 900 SE Get Over the Standard Model?
The Versys 900 SE shares its engine, chassis concept and core electronic rider assistance technology with the standard model. Its main distinction is the additional genuine Kawasaki touring and protection equipment included as standard.
The SE variant gets:
-
Heated grips: Designed to improve comfort when riding in colder conditions.
-
Hand guards: Add protection around the handlebar and rider’s hands.
-
Compact LED auxiliary fog lamps: Improve lighting capability in suitable low-visibility conditions.
-
Radiator screen: Provides additional protection for the radiator.
-
Frame protection sliders: Help protect parts of the motorcycle in certain low-speed incidents.
-
Lower cowl: Adds protection and complements the motorcycle’s styling.
-
Centre stand: Makes routine maintenance and certain parking tasks more convenient.
These additions make the SE a more touring-ready package straight from the showroom, reducing the need to purchase these accessories separately. The standard Versys 900, meanwhile, retains the same core sports-touring concept without this additional equipment fitted as standard.
Weight and Dimensions
Kawasaki has developed the Versys 900 around a steel trellis frame intended to combine stability with light, direct handling. Long-travel suspension at both ends helps absorb uneven road surfaces, while 17-inch wheels front and rear support its road-focused character.
The upright riding position, height-adjustable seat and carefully shaped fuel tank are intended to make the motorcycle comfortable and manageable over long distances. The windscreen can be adjusted to balance wind protection with the motorcycle’s sporty styling.
The standard and SE variants share the same fundamental chassis layout. However, complete weight and overall dimension figures should be confirmed from the relevant market-specific specification sheet rather than assumed.
Expected Price and India Launch
The Kawasaki Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE have been revealed for the 2027 model year, with European availability announced for April 2027. Kawasaki has not yet confirmed an Indian launch or announced Indian prices for either variant.
If introduced in India, the Versys 900 could sit between the Versys 650 and Versys 1100 in the brand’s lineup. An indicative estimate of ₹12 lakh to ₹14 lakh ex-showroom for the standard model could be considered, with the SE potentially commanding a premium. These figures are estimates only, not official pricing, and the final positioning would depend on Kawasaki’s import and market strategy.
More details about the Indian launch, variant availability and pricing remain awaited.
