BMW Motorrad has introduced the high-performance M 1000 R in India with a price tag of ₹33.50 lakh. Positioned as the top-spec, track-focused version of the S 1000 R roadster, the M model delivers higher performance along with upgraded components and design enhancements.
Performance and engine
The M 1000 R uses an engine derived from the S 1000 RR supersport motorcycle. It produces 207bhp at 13,750rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,100rpm. While this output is 2hp lower than the previous model, the peak power arrives 750rpm earlier in the rev range.
According to BMW, the motorcycle can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 3.2 seconds and reach a claimed top speed of 280kmph. A quick-action throttle comes as standard equipment.
The bike also features BMW’s ShiftCam technology, which adjusts valve timing to deliver stronger torque at lower engine speeds while maintaining high peak power.
Aerodynamics and design
Aerodynamic winglets are integrated into the bodywork. These are designed to improve stability by generating downforce both while leaning and riding upright. At 220kph, the winglets can generate approximately 11kg of downforce.
The front-end styling has been revised as well. Earlier versions used a single vertical headlamp design, similar to that seen on the older G 310 R, which received mixed reactions from enthusiasts. The latest version now adopts a front fascia inspired by the S 1000 RR, featuring twin headlights with a central air intake, giving the bike a more aggressive and cohesive look.
Apart from the updated styling and minor refinements, the overall mechanical setup remains largely similar to the previous model.
