To say that Dubai is an adrenaline-fueled playground where speed, style, and luxury collide won’t be an overstatement. For those who live for the roar of an engine, this modern metropolis offers a seamless blend of high-octane thrills and world-class indulgence. From carving through golden dunes to savouring Michelin-starred masterpieces, here’s how I experienced Dubai in true petrolhead fashion.
If you think you’ve mastered the art of driving, the Arabian desert will test that confidence. The undulating sand dunes outside Dubai aren’t just mesmerising; they’re nature’s ultimate off-road challenge. Whether you get behind the wheel of a powerful dune buggy or strap in as an expert driver skillfully manoeuvres a 4x4 through near-vertical descents, the experience is nothing short of electrifying. But it doesn’t stop at four wheels; sandboarding is a must-try for those craving a different kind of rush. Imagine snowboarding, but instead of icy slopes, you’re gliding down an ocean of sun-kissed sand. I have to admit, I bit the dust more times than I’d like to admit, but the feeling when you finally get your stance right is surreal, to say the least.
Shifting gears from sand to sea, the Dubai coastline offers yet another high-speed adventure. But on the water this time. Riding a high-powered jet ski past the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab and eventually venturing deep into the Persian Gulf was an immensely thrilling experience. And more so because the jet skis were not throttled in any way. With their full power unleashed, they can chop their way through rough waters at up to 75 kmph. Unlike a casual dip in the ocean, this ride is all about velocity. Since I opted for a guided jet ski tour, I got to race alongside fellow thrill-seekers while taking in Dubai’s stunning coastal panorama.
Not every adventure needs to be fueled by horsepower. After the rush of the desert and the sea, a drive to Hatta offered the perfect reset. Nestled amid rugged mountains, this serene escape was a stark contrast to Dubai’s urban grandeur. The highlight? Kayaking in the tranquil turquoise waters of Hatta Dam. Gliding calmly through the still waters is an experience that reminded me just how diverse Dubai’s landscapes truly are. And I was pleasantly surprised to know that Hatta is a favourite destination for hiking and glamping lovers as well. And that’s something that I’ve already added to my Dubai bucket list.
For a city obsessed with pushing boundaries, it’s no surprise that Dubai’s culinary scene is also top-class. No petrolhead’s luxury tour would be complete without indulging in some of the finest dining experiences the city has to offer. Take 3Fils, for instance. A culinary gem where Japanese flavours meet Middle Eastern artistry. Having tender mutton chops cooked for over 76 hours and washing them down with Zaatar-infused guava juice was among the finest gourmet experiences I’ve ever had.
Dubai is a place where the hum of a supercar engine is right around the corner, no matter what part of the city you’re in. Thrill-seekers and luxury lovers are never too far away from indulging in exhilarating adventures. Whether you’re conquering dunes, slicing through waves, or dining in Michelin-starred joints, Dubai always exceeds them.
