We enter the Hatchback territory with a car that has recently faded away in importance. The Celerio sometimes gets lost in the crowd of the Altos, the WagonRs, and the Kwids. That being said, the Celerio in itself is an excellent package. It is a compact car with respectable performance, incredible mileage, good features and a fair price tag. Where it outdoes all of its competitors is in mileage numbers. Maruti Suzuki claims you can get a fuel economy of 25.24 Km/l with the manual and 26.68 Km/l with the Automatic version of the Celerio. This is not only the highest among sedans but also the highest when it comes to non-hybrid cars.
It also offers features like a 7-inch touchscreen display and an engine start-stop button. In terms of performance, the Celerio is powered by a 1.0L K10C engine that produces 66 hp and 89 Nm torque. The prices of the Celerio start at 5.36 Lakhs for the Manual and 6.33 Lakhs for the AMT transmission.
Swift has ranked high in the sales charts of Indian cars for a long time now. It offers a premium sedan experience with fun driving dynamics and impressive fuel economy. It got a facelift in 2024, further increasing its fuel efficiency numbers. The latest number stands at 24.8 km/l for the Manual transmission and 25.75 Km/l for the AMT version. The engine behind this excellent mileage is the 1.2L Z-series Petrol engine that is capable of producing 80 hp and 111.7 Nm of torque. This is a 3-cylinder engine instead of the 4-cylinder one earlier and also makes 9 hp less than before. However, the safety quotient has improved with 6 airbags and features like hill-hold assist, ESP, ABS and EBD. You can buy the Swift at a starting price of 6.49 Lakhs for the Manual and 7.8 Lakhs for the AMT variants (ex-showroom). Find the first drive review of Swift 2024 here.
