So you like the torque, eco friendliness and silent cabin of EVs? Yes. Then what stops you from buying them? The long charging time! This was a conversation among us when comparing EVs and ICE cars. This got us wondering, are there EVs that can solve this problem? We did the research so you don't have to. Here are the fastest charging EVs in India, which will waste your least time on the go for charging.
Porsche recently launched the Taycan 2024 in India for Rs 1.89 Crore. The updated EV charges even faster than its previous generation. The 2024 Taycan now uses a new charging architecture named the Combined Booster Charger (CBC). It can charge up to 320 kW at 800-volt DC charging stations, 50 kW faster than the last generation. While the previous Taycan took 22 minutes to charge from 0-80%, the 2024 Taycan can do it in just 18 minutes. It has two battery pack options, a 105 kWh and an 89 kWh pack. The former can range between 579 km to 678 km, while the latter gets a range of 590 km.
The second sport is taken by the South Korean siblings Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. They support an 800V ultra-fast charging system, enabling the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in about 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger. EV6 can be bought in two variants, one with a RWD drivetrain and the other with AWD. The RWD gets a power output of 226 bhp with 350 Nm of torque while the AWD variant produces 321 bhp and 605 Nm. The battery capacity of this EV is 77.4 kWh and once on a complete charge, it can last 528 km in the RWD version and 505 km in the AWD variant. When it comes to the Ioniq 5, it has a single RWD drivetrain that delivers a power output of 215 bhp and 350 Nm to the wheels. It derives its power from a 72.6 kWh battery pack.
The EQS is the luxury Electric car from Mercedes in India. It supports ultra-rapid DC charging with a maximum capacity of 207 kW. This allows it to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes when using a 300 kW DC charger. The EQS gets its power from a 107.8 kWh battery pack, delivering 516 bhp and 855 Nm of torque. Once fully charged, it can last a range of 857 km. It gets an acceleration time of 4.3 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h.
Next in line are the Tata siblings Nexon EV and Punch EV. These get a fast charging option with a 50 kWh DC charger that can charge it from 10-80% in just 56 minutes. The Punch EV is one of the newest cars in the list and gets a range of 315 km with the standard 25 kWh battery pack and 421 km with the long range 35 kWh battery pack. The Nexon EV, on the other hand, the Nexon EV claims a 465 km range in the 40.5 kWh long range variant and a 325 km range with medium range 30 kWh variant.
